Liquid-liquid extraction - In chemistry, liquid-liquid extraction (or more briefly, solvent extraction) is a useful method to separate components (compounds) of a mixture. The success of this method depends upon the difference in solubility of a compound in various solvents.
Differential extraction - Differential extraction refers to the process by which two different types of cells' DNA can be extracted without mixing their contents. The most common application of this method is the extraction of DNA from vaginal epithelial cells and sperm cells from sexual assault cases in order to determine the DNA profiles of the victim and the perpetrator.
Intact dilation and extraction - Intact dilation and extraction (IDX or Intact D&X), is a specific type of medical procedure —wherin a late-term fetus, is removed from the womb via the cervix (this includes miscarried and in the case of abortions, viable fetuses). In the case of a miscarriage it is used to remove a deceased fetus that is developed enough to require dilation of the cervix for extraction.
