Skid Row (heavy metal band) - Skid Row is an American heavy metal band which became the hard rock prototypes of the late 1980s metal scene and were reasonably successful until they were eclipsed by the Seattle grunge bands in 1991. While lumped in with hair bands, partly due to their appearance and sound in the early years, Skid Row were in fact far and away heavier than just about any other band considered "hair metal".

Buttrock - Buttrock is a derogatory term for many types of rock and roll & metal genres of music, much as the terms hair metal or mallcore are. The label 'buttrock' however is meant disparagingly toward most '70s & '80s heavy metal bands as well as a lot of early Thrash Metal including Bay Area thrash, Teutonic Thrash and even some Crossover thrash, though especially the term is used for bands of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal.

Lillian Axe - Lillian Axe is a classic hair metal band that showed up around 1988, in the heyday of hair metal. Somehow the band never found a route to the mainstream, though, and it's a real shame as guitarist Stevie Blaze is a very talented musician, incorporating his classical influences into the bands hard-rocking metal.

Terminal hair - Terminal hair is developed hair, which is generally longer, coarser, thicker, and darker than vellus hair. Phases of growth in terminal hair are more apparent than in vellus hair; terminal hair generally has a longer anagen phase.
