Cranial nerves - Cranial nerves are nerves that emerge from the brainstem instead of the spinal cord. Cranial nerves I and II are named as such, but are technically not nerves, as they are continuations of the central nervous system.

Splanchnic nerves - The splanchnic nerves are part of the autonomic nervous system. Most autonomic nerves synapse in the sympathetic trunk along the spinal cord, but splanchnic nerves pass through the trunk, travel near their target organ, and synapse in prevertebral ganglia.

Sensory nerves - Sensory nerves are nerves that receive sensory stimuli, such as how something feels and if it is painful. They are made up of nerve fibers, called sensory fibers (mechanoreceptor fibers sense body movement and pressure placed against the body, and nociceptor fibers sense tissue injury).

Intercostal nerves - The intercostal nerves are the thoracic spinal nerves T3 through T12. They are so named because they run between the ribs.
